Glass railing systems (or balustrades) are used in a variety of residential and commercial settings for safety, unobstructed views, and beautiful design aesthetic. According to Internation Building Code (IBC) they are referred to officially as “guards.” Requirements can range depending on application, location, and local building codes. Some systems can be designed to include a protruding hand railing, top cap, or can free float with just a glass edge.
Exterior guards can be used to provide an unobstructed view and open up a outdoor space. Many different styles and finish options are available. A contractor will need to confirm your design meets local building requirements for your design, and any HOA or design approvals meet before ordering. Enclosures will be happy to provide information to submit for these design reviews if needed.
Interior guards create an open feeling on the inside of a large space and enhance visibility, making a space more modern and clean line. Also eliminating railings spindles/balustrades make them safer for little ones that are prone to misuse of the open areas. Enclosures could use full metal post options or to tie into drywall and wood posts using a clamp system. Clients also can provide their own custom railings if wanting a specialty design. We would then template and install the glass only. Reach out to our estimating and design team today to learn more!
